Some are intended for a specific point in an individual\u2019s journey, others for after death has occurred for use by family and friends. All should bring relief and some comfort at a very difficult time.<\/p>\n<h2>Prayers at time of death<\/h2>\n<p>Go forth, Christian soul, from this world<br \/>\nin the name of God the almighty Father,<br \/>\nwho created you,<br \/>\nin the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,<br \/>\nwho suffered for you,<br \/>\nin the name of the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nwho was poured out upon you,<br \/>\ngo forth, faithful Christian,<br \/>\nMay you live in peace this day,<br \/>\nmay your home be with God in Zion,<br \/>\nwith Mary, the virgin Mother of God,<br \/>\nwith Joseph, and all the angels and saints.<\/p>\n<h2>Catholic prayers for the dying and the sick<\/h2>\n<p>Lord Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world,<br \/>\nwe pray for your servant N.,<br \/>\nand commend him\/her to your mercy.<br \/>\nFor his\/her sake you came down from heaven;<br \/>\nreceive him\/her now into the joy of your kingdom.<br \/>\nFor though he\/she has sinned,<br \/>\nhe\/she has not denied the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nbut has believed in God<br \/>\nand has worshipped his\/her Creator.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p>Father, your Son accepted our sufferings<br \/>\nto teach us the virtue of patience in human illness.<br \/>\nHear the prayers we offer for our sick brother\/sister.<br \/>\nMay all who suffer pain, illness or disease<br \/>\nrealize that they have been chosen to be saints<br \/>\nand know that they are joined to Christ<br \/>\nin his suffering for the salvation of the world.<br \/>\nWe ask this through Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<h2>Prayers for a peaceful death<\/h2>\n<p>All praise and glory are yours, Lord our God,<br \/>\nfor you have called us to serve you in love.<br \/>\nBless all who have grown old in your service<br \/>\nand give N. strength and courage<br \/>\nto continue to follow Jesus your Son.<br \/>\nWe ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.<\/p>\n<h2>Catholic prayers for the dying<\/h2>\n<p><em>When the moment of death seems near, the following prayer may be said:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I commend you, my dear brother\/sister,<br \/>\nto almighty God,<br \/>\nand entrust you to your Creator.<br \/>\nMay you return to Him<br \/>\nwho formed you from the dust of the earth.<br \/>\nMay holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints<br \/>\ncome to meet you as you go forth from this life.<br \/>\nMay Christ who was crucified for you<br \/>\nbring you freedom and peace.<br \/>\nMay Christ who died for you<br \/>\nadmit you into his garden of paradise.<br \/>\nMay Christ, the true Shepherd,<br \/>\nAcknowledge you as one of his flock.<br \/>\nMay He forgive all your sins,<br \/>\nAnd set you among those He has chosen.<br \/>\nMay you see your Redeemer face to face,<br \/>\nAnd enjoy the vision of God for ever.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<h2>Short texts<\/h2>\n<p>What will separate us from the love of Christ? (Rom 8:35)<\/p>\n<p>Whether we live or die, we are the Lord\u2019s. (Rom 14:8)<\/p>\n<p>We shall always be with the Lord. (1 Thes 4:17)<\/p>\n<p>To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. (Ps 25:1)<\/p>\n<p>Though I should walk in the valley of the shadow of death, no evil would I fear, for you are with me. (Ps 23:4)<\/p>\n<p>Into your hands I commend my spirit. (Ps 31:6a)<\/p>\n<p>Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. (Lk 23:42)<\/p>\n<p>Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. (Acts 7:59)<\/p>\n<p>Holy Mary, pray for me.<br \/>\nSaint Joseph, pray for me.<br \/>\nJesus, Mary, and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.<\/p>\n<h2>Prayers immediately after death<\/h2>\n<p><em>The following prayers may be recited immediately after death and may be repeated in the hours\u00a0that follow:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Saints of God, come to his\/her aid!<br \/>\nCome to meet him\/her, Angels of the Lord!<br \/>\nReceive his\/her soul and present him\/her to God the Most High.<\/p>\n<p>May Christ, who called you, take you to Himself;<br \/>\nmay Angels lead you to Abraham\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>Give him\/her eternal rest, O Lord,<br \/>\nand may your light shine on him\/her forever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let us pray.<\/strong><br \/>\nAll-powerful and merciful God,<br \/>\nwe commend to you N., your servant.<br \/>\nIn your mercy and love,<br \/>\nblot out the sins he\/she has committed<br \/>\nthrough human weakness.<br \/>\nIn this world he\/she has died:<br \/>\nlet him\/her live with you forever.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p><em>These verses may also be used:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>V\/. Eternal rest grant unto him\/her, O Lord.<br \/>\nR\/. And let perpetual light shine upon him\/her.<br \/>\nV\/. May he\/she rest in peace.<br \/>\nR\/. Amen.<br \/>\nV\/.
